As the name suggests, an anti-kink spring is a spring made of metal that works as a form of kink protection. When assembling a hose set, this metal spring is pushed over the hose before you attach the mouthpiece or adapter. When connecting the hose set to the hookah, the anti-kink spring is pushed directly over the hose adapter.
This prevents the hose from kinking above the adapter and thus interrupting the air flow when smoking. The use of a kink protection spring is recommended, especially when using silicone hoses, that have a smaller wall thickness and thus tend to kink more quickly.
